Laura Pettersen is the Executive Director, Scenic Rivers Area Health Education Center. She has a storied history of traveling across the country for various jobs teaching and learning along the way. Landing in the Winona area, she currently serves as Executive Director with Scenic Rivers AHEC and the Winona Workforce Development Board. You can find her hiking, paddling, or gardening with her partner Tony when she’s not wrangling their two cats, Lola and Powerman.
Doug WestermanBoard Vice Chair
Doug is the GENERAL MANAGER at KQAL FM where he oversees the day to day operation and instruction at KQAL, Winona State’s student radio station. He is also an adjunct professor in the Mass Comm department.
Rick Dold Board Treasurer
Rick Dold is a business attorney and founding partner of Godwin Dold law firm working out of their Winona office. Rick’s practice focuses on assisting businesses and business owners with all of their company’s legal needs. Rick assists organizations, business owners, and individuals with company formation, buy/sell agreements, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, asset purchase, contract negotiations, commercial real estate transactions, and all other personal, corporate, and business matters.
Chuck BerendesBoard Secretary
Chuck is a La Crosse native. He is an attorney at Pittman & Pittman in La Crosse and also provides legal supervision to the Immigration Services program at Catholic Charities. Chuck has 3 kids, 5 chickens and a 20 year old beard.
Sam BrownMWMF Founder/Board Member
Sam founded Mid West Music Fest as an AmeriCorps project in 2009. He has a passion for building community through music and art, one day at a time and continues to execute new artistic ventures from his home in Red Wing, MN.
Jacqueline MarcouBoard Member
Jacqui’s interest in joining Mid West Music Fest’s board came from years of attending the fest and loving the magic it brings to the culture of both La Crosse and Winona. She’s been a nurse at Mayo Clinic for the past 12 years and is grateful for the opportunity to help care for her community. Through her past work on La Crosse’s City Council, various boards and committees, (and occasionally going rogue) Jacqui loves to help make things happen here in the city. Jacqui is usually hiking with the family dog and her amazingly lovely daughters, or running the trails of the coulee region. She digs yoga, national parks and empanadas.
Chad StaehlyBoard Member
Chad has worked in the music industry for twenty plus years, primarily in Colorado but also in Nashville where he is a partner in an artist management company called Gold Mountain Entertainment, founded by industry veteran Burt Stein. Chad has also toured as a keyboardist in several national touring bands including Great American Taxi, Hard Working Americans and The High Hawks. Recently Chad and his family relocated to La Crosse, WI to help launch La Crosse Distilling Co.
Johanna FrischBoard Member
Johanna is an artist, creative consultant, and small business owner based in Winona, Minnesota. She attended Winona State University and went on to study textiles and apparel design in Minneapolis before relocating to Los Angeles, California, where she lived and worked for 18 years. Johanna is a mother to three amazing humans, which she considers her most important and rewarding vocation in life.
Ian ThomsonBoard Member
Ian is an independent artist manager and festival director, talent buyer, promoter, and brand ambassador with a background in supply chain planning, relationship building, artist relations, community engagement, customer service, project management and coordination, event planning, and logistics—accomplished in continuous process improvement, trend analysis, scheduling, forecasting, budgets, training, and team building. As a part of the music industry ecosystem for the past 8 years, he worked for festivals like Mile of Music and currently manages Adrian + Meredith, Feed The Dog, and co-manages, Twan Mack.
Aaron KoepkeBoard Member
Aaron is an instructor in the Communication Studies Department at UW-La Crosse and has worked on campus in various roles for eleven years. He also co-owns K&K Instructional Design with his wife, Kristin Koepke, and provides training and services to businesses, colleges, and universities as well as serving as the Past President of the Board of Directors at the Children’s Museum of La Crosse and as a Ski Patroller at Mt. La Crosse. Aaron is pretty sure that La Crosse is one of the best places on earth and that beets should never be served to anyone because they taste like dirt. He is honored to serve on the MWMF Board.

Abby is a Winona, MN native who moved west after college to work outdoors. She has spent her career in environmental conservation, the outdoor industry, event planning, and non-profit marketing. In 2015 she and her family moved back to the Mississippi river valley and made La Crosse, WI their home.
Parker ForsellCreative Director
Since the early 1990s, he has been organizing events, music performances, and grassroots community networks of consumers, farmers, and musicians. He has been a publisher and editor, a farm hand, non-profit organizer, booking agent, band manager, and record producer. Parker has been a resident of Winona, MN since 2008.
